The pride of small town Pennsylvania. Namath did his part to help revolutionize the QB position. Arm strength and a quick release were two of his best attributes. His velocity and mechanics rival any contemporary QB. He could fit passes into tight spaces. This got him into trouble too as evidenced by the fact he threw more interceptions than touchdowns in his pro career. Excellent athlete as an amateur. Quick twitch and a three sport star in high school. Knee injuries slowed him as he got older. Leader on the field who stood in the pocket and took hits. Tough. Confident. Played hurt. Liked to run at night but was accountable. The intangibles played a big part in his success. Never going to be listed on the Mt. Rushmore of quarterbacks. His greatness can't be found in the numbers alone.
