One of the top 10 greatest pitchers of all time. Did it without being overpowering. Was able to over match hitters with surgical command, top of the scale control and tremendous movement. Consistency was perhaps his greatest asset. From pitch to pitch, start to start and season to season. Always a step ahead of the batter. His feel to pitch was and still is unmatched. He possessed a FB with plus plus sink and run, able to get ground balls at a high rate. His CB was a swing and miss pitch. his CH looked and acted just like FB out of his hand and was a K pitch for him. He used a plus cutter effectively in on LH hands and away to RH. He had pitches to put hitters away but he valued efficiency most. Therefore, his goal was to get hitters out early in counts with weak contact which is what made him so successful. On top of all of his ability as a pitcher he was also arguably the best defender at his position of all time.
