Designated Hitter

Ask Pedro Martinez or Mariano Rivera who the toughest hitter they had to face was and the answer is Edgar Martinez. Arguably the best RH hitter of his era. Combination of natural hit ability, power and plate discipline. He had tremendous plate coverage and did not have a weakness to exploit as a hitter. 2 batting titles, 3 on base titles, led the league in OPS in 1995, 7 time all-star. Has the DH award named after him. If not for getting a late ML start he would be a lock Hall of Fame player. First full season came at the age of 27.
